Akkeri Guesthouse is located in the heart of Stykkisholmur, the largest town on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. From the guesthouse, you’ll be within walking distance of supermarkets and local restaurants. One of my favorite meals in Iceland was at Narfeyrarstofa, a seafood restaurant located right across the street.
That said, you’re likely not staying in Stykkisholmur to explore town but instead as a convenient jumping off point to explore the rest of the peninsula. From Akkeri Guesthouse, you can easily drive and see the top attractions along the Snaefellsnes Peninsula in a day, including Kirkjufell Mountain, the basalt cliffs of Lóndrangar, the iconic black church Búðakirkja, and the plane wreck at Djúpalónssandur Beach.
2. Ferry Baldur – the gateway to the Westfjords – is a 1-minute drive.
If you’re planning to visit the Westfjords from Snaefellsnes Peninsula, then Akkeri Guesthouse is the best place to stay for you. It’s a 1-minute drive to get to the boarding area for Ferry Baldur, which will take you to Brjánslækur in the Westfjords.
Even though the ferry only runs at certain times and days of the year, it was our only chance of seeing the Westfjords during our 10 day trip. Otherwise, we simply wouldn’t have had enough time to drive to the Westfjords and explore the region.
Although we still didn’t get to see everything we wanted to, I’d highly recommend finding a way to fit the Westfjords into your itinerary if you’re traveling to Iceland in the summer. The untouched beauty of the region’s rugged landscapes and breathtaking fjords is absolutely worth the trip. It’s also one of the best places to see puffins up close, which you can do at Látrabjarg Cliffs – the westernmost point of Iceland and Europe.

Additionally, there is a standard triple room that comes with 3 twin beds to comfortably accommodate 3 people.
